It addresses real world environmental and occupational health threats in a manner that includes communities and seeks solutions that ameliorate the
health impacts of those threats. BCCHE emphasizes a scientific approach that facilitates public participation in gathering information and developing solutions and that interacts extensively with people and organizations that determine or are affected by these policy choices. Current research at the Commoner Center addresses early detection of occupational disease in a national medical screening program of nuclear
weapons workers; extensive monitoring of air pollution in New York City; salient occupational health problems of New York City immigrant workers; and the long-term impact of World Trade Center-related exposures on health.
