Washington (APL-UW) invites applications for a postdoctoral researcher to be deeply embedded in a research group that utilizes advanced ultrasound methods for both cardiovascular imaging as well as cardiac ablation (using high-intensity thermal ultrasound). The position will be primary responsible for fabrication, characterization (both electrical and acoustic) and pre-clinical implementation (as part of a team
performing both ex-vivo and large animal in-vivo studies) of catheter-based cardiac/myocardial ablation. The clinical applications investigated will include ventricular tachycardia and hypertrophic cardiomyopathy septal reduction therapy. Opportunities will be available to interface with and participate in research projects in partner laboratories within the Center for Industrial and Medical Ultrasound. Core Duties:
Apply advanced engineering techniques to rapidly fabricate intracardiac ultrasound ablation catheters, ensuring consistency to allow comparisons of use in large-animal scientific studies. Characterizes and validates fabricated devices acoustically and electronically Participates in animal research by operating experimental ultrasound devices In addition to disseminating results at major conferences and in
peer-reviewed journals, postdocs are encouraged and mentored in writing grant proposals. A notable feature of APL postdoc positions is the ability to submit grant proposals as PIs under supervision, with the goal of establishing an independent research program and career path. The postdoc will be based at the University of Washington – Seattle Campus. The preferred start date is June 1 or July 1, 2024, and has
