The Department of Neurology seeks an outstanding human neurorehabilitation researcher to lead studies of movement recovery using spinal stimulation, under the supervision of Jason Carmel, MD, PhD, a neurologist and movement neuroscientist. We seek to understand how electrical stimulation alters the sensorimotor system in individuals with spinal cord injury (SCI). Responsibilities · The project will apply stimulation
to improve skilled arm and hand movement. · Conduct brain and spinal cord stimulation to assess neural circuits and to modify system physiology · Analyze EMG and EEG signal of responses to brain and spinal cord stimulation · Assess arm and hand function using assessments of dexterity in people with SCI. · Analyze anatomy of the cervical spinal cord to assess extent of injury and to aid placement of stimulating
electrodes. · Conduct statistical analyses of anatomy, physiology and behavioral results.
