Postdoctoral

Position summary

This opportunity to join the Department of Pediatrics at the Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons at the rank of Postdoctoral Research Scientist is an exciting one. Columbia University Irving Medical Center is one of the nation’s foremost academic health science centers. The Department of Pediatrics at Columbia University Irving Medical Center is amongst the leading pediatric departments in the New York region

and NIH research funding. KEY RESPONSIBILITIES As a Postdoctoral Research Scientist in our program, the candidate will conduct research on viral infection and pathogenesis, with a particular focus on the mechanisms of viral entry and membrane fusion mediated by coronaviruses, mumps virus, and measles virus. Investigate the mechanisms of action and structural determinants of antiviral peptides, small molecules, and

monoclonal antibodies, with an emphasis on the structural characterization of viral and host proteins involved in membrane fusion and viral entry. Apply advanced biochemical, structural biology, and cryo–electron microscopy (cryo-EM) approaches to characterize viral glycoproteins, host receptors, and antiviral therapeutics. Perform mammalian cell culture and baculovirus-based protein expression, including transient

transfection and viral expression systems. Conduct membrane protein purification, biochemical characterization, cryo-EM sample preparation, data collection, image processing, and structural analysis. Collaborate closely with investigators at Columbia University Irving Medical Center and the CUNY Advanced Science Research Center (ASRC) on multidisciplinary research projects.
