The CTICU PA will play a vital role in delivering exceptional care to critically ill patients recovering from complex cardiothoracic procedures. Working within a
collaborative, multidisciplinary team, this position offers the opportunity to contribute to cutting-edge medicine in a high-acuity, academic medical center on Long Island. This is a Daytime position but required to cover night, weekends and holidays on rotational basis. Prior cardiothoracic surgery experience preferred but will train PA with 1-2 years of impatient experience. Also new graduate with cardiothoracic
elective rotation experience can apply. Key Responsibilities Conduct thorough patient assessments, including physical exams, hemodynamic monitoring, and interpretation of diagnostics (e.g., chest X-rays, echocardiograms, lab results). Manage post-operative care for CTICU patients, including those on mechanical circulatory support (e.g., ECMO, IABP) and ventilators. Perform procedures such as arterial line insertion,
central venous catheter placement, Swan-Ganz Catheter placement, chest tube placement and chest tube removal. Collaborate with cardiothoracic surgeons, intensivists, and nurses to develop and adjust treatment plans, including medication management. Respond to acute changes in patient condition, initiating emergency protocols as needed. Educate patients and families on post-operative recovery and discharge planning.
Document care accurately in the EMR system, ensuring compliance with hospital standards. Participate in quality improvement initiatives and multidisciplinary rounds to enhance patient outcomes.
