Position summary

General Purpose: Develops and leads engaging art making curriculum for young learners (ages 2-17) in Creative Workshop youth programs (camps, classes or workshops). Responsible for developing age-appropriate, hands-on projects that support or reflect the program curriculum and age/grade level. Responsible for project planning, demonstration, instruction, and the management and requesting of all art making supplies.

Sets the tone, pace, and project scope of the program, managing and balancing the art making portions with classroom management and student engagement to ensure success of the program. Instructors use the resources of the Memorial Art Gallery (most notably access to permanent and travelling exhibitions) to engage, inspire and keep students learning. Responsibilities: ·         

Prepares and plans lessons to teach at the Memorial Art Gallery’s Creative Workshop. ·          Designs course materials to fit the pace, goals, and skill level of the class, camp or workshop ·          Sets a schedule of instruction with goals consistent to the class as planned to fit into curriculum. ·

         Demonstrates appropriate knowledge of subject and medium. ·          Prepares in advance any materials students will need (i.e. material lists, handouts, audiovisual presentations). ·          Makes timely requests to Creative Workshop Manager for supply needs, gallery visits, copies and

audio-visual needs. ·          Helps students to identify their goal for the course. ·          Supports students in meeting those goals by achieving increasing levels of demonstrated skill and individual creativity among students.  ·
