Position description The University of California, San Diego (UCSD) School of Medicine, Department of Urology is committed to academic excellence within the faculty, staff, and student body and is seeking a benign urology translational researcher to serve as the Vice Chair of Basic & Translational Research. The Department of Urology
seeks an established investigator capable of leading impactful research initiatives and elevating the department’s national profile. The Vice Chair of Basic & Translational Research will coordinate research in the Genitourinary Microbiome across a broad range of urological conditions, including nephrolithiasis, urinary incontinence and prolapse, stricture disease, male infertility, prosthetics & biofilm, and
genitourinary oncology. In addition, they will foster collaboration across departments and disciplines (including SIO, engineering, and data sciences). They will work closely with the Microbiome Institute and the Vice Chair of Clinical Research to translate innovation to bedside applications, develop a core research curriculum for trainees, teach, and provide ongoing research didactics. The successful candidate will
establish and maintain independent peer-reviewed funding, accelerate the translation of scientific discoveries into clinical practice, and mentor faculty and trainees to support their submissions as Principal Investigator for peer-reviewed funding.
