Benefits Position Summary The Department of Music in the College of Performing & Visual Arts at Southern Utah University invites applications for a dynamic and versatile artist-educator for a 9-month, tenure-track position as an Assistant Professor of Music, beginning Fall 2026. The successful candidate will provide artistic leadership, administration, student mentorship, and recruitment for the Sound of Southern

Utah Marching Band and associated athletic bands, while contributing to the continued growth and visibility of one of the university's most dynamic and public-facing programs. Additional responsibilities include teaching applied trumpet and other courses consistent with the candidate's expertise and departmental needs. SUU seeks a collaborative and innovative educator committed to student success, artistic

excellence, and the advancement of a vibrant and growing music program. Essential Functions Athletic Bands Leadership: Direct, administer, recruit for, and oversee all aspects of the Sound of Southern Utah Marching Band and Sound Machine Basketball Band, including rehearsals, performances, travel, student leadership development, and related coursework. (This position includes up to 6 Institutional Credit Hours [ICH]

of load reassignment to lead, recruit, manage, and direct the SUU band programs.)Area Coordinator & Applied Instruction: Teach applied trumpet lessons and trumpet-related courses for music majors and non-majors, as well as other courses consistent with the candidate's expertise and departmental needs.Serve as Brass area coordinator including oversight of brass instrument inventories and assisting the Department Chair

in identifying and supervising adjunct brass faculty as needed.Recruitment & Outreach: Develop and execute strategic recruitment initiatives locally, regionally, and nationally to actively grow the athletic band and brass programs. Foster positive relationships with school music educators and community partners through active engagement in local, state, regional, and national professional
