Dance For more information visit: https://dance.umbc.edu/ Anticipated Start Date: August 17, 2026 About the Position: Position Title: Assistant Teaching Professor of Dance In consultation with the Department Chair, the Assistant Teaching Professor of Dance teaches a 4/4 course load in a variety of topics within the discipline of dance including Dance Studies, History, and Appreciation. Successful candidates will also

have demonstrable experience teaching Cunningham-based techniques. Service assignments appropriate to the rank of Assistant Teaching Professor include contributions to curriculum development, assessment, academic advising, recruitment, and student retention, as well as college and university service. Required Qualifications MFA or other terminal degree in Dance or a closely related field Minimum three years teaching

undergraduate students Competency to teach both dance theory and studio-based techniques Record of experience of teaching in the areas of Dance Studies, History, and/or Appreciation Expertise in teaching Cunningham-based technique Commitment to and experience in fostering inclusive excellence and student-centered pedagogy Ongoing scholarly, creative, or professional engagement in the field (e.g. peer reviewed

presentations at national/international conferences, authored articles and book chapters, presentation of choreographies for public performance, leadership in professional educational organizations, etc.). Preferred Qualifications Experience teaching general education courses to non-majors, including honors and writing-intensive formats Interest and experience in online instruction and course development Decolonized
