Sports Medicine at the University of Washington, in Seattle, has an outstanding opportunity for a full-time academic orthopaedic spine surgeon. This position will be based at the University of Washington Medical Center – the Montlake and Northwest Hospital Campuses. Responsibilities may include medical student, resident and fellow education. Additionally, the successful candidate is expected to develop a busy
clinical practice and a robust program in clinical, educational methodologies, or basic science research. The successful candidate will be expected to develop a record of professionalism, academic accomplishments, and excellent clinical skills encompassing a broad spectrum of spine surgery. The appointment will be made at the Assistant Professor or Associate Professor rank, depending upon qualifications, all without
tenure (WOT). The majority of School of Medicine faculty hired in the professorial track are hired under the WOT designation. Faculty appointed WOT have the same rights, responsibilities and obligations as tenure-track and tenured faculty members at those ranks. However, faculty appointed as WOT do not hold tenure because all or part of their annual University-administered salary is derived from sources other than
regularly appropriated stated funds This position has a flexible start date in the fall of 2026. Assistant Professors (WOT) are eligible for multi-year appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Associate Professors (WOT) hold indefinite appointments that align with a 12-month service period (July 1-June 30). Faculty with 12-month service periods are paid for 11 months of service over a
12-month period (July-June), meaning the equivalent of one month is available for paid time off. All University of Washington faculty engage in teaching, research and service.
