Assistant Professor of Philosophy with a focus in biomedical ethics. This is a 9-month, full-time, tenure-track, benefit eligible position within the Department of History. The Philosophy program offers a B.A. and B.S. in Philosophy. Initial teaching workload may include individual ethics workshops, lectures or class visits to courses within the South Dakota Biomedical Computation Collaborative (SDBCC) over the span

of an academic year. The SDBCC is an externally funded consortium of researchers across several institutions in South Dakota applying computation, machine learning, artificial intelligence, data science, bioinformatics, and other in silico approaches to address complex problems related to biomedical sciences, clinical diagnosis, and patient treatment.RESPONSIBILITES: Teach undergraduate courses in ethics such as

introduction to ethics, biomedical ethics, and electives. The position will teach in person and online; Develop and teach a graduate course in biomedical ethics open to graduate students from multiple STEM disciplines; Create and direct applied learning opportunities (such as internships) for philosophy students in clinical or other professional settings; Serve on graduate committees and University Honors thesis

committees; Advise and mentor undergraduate and graduate students; Develop a research program that involves peer-reviewed publication; Participate in department, college and university service; and participate in professional service and outreach activities. Be an active member of the SDBCC. Collaborate with members of the SDBCC across different fields and institutions within the university and work to embed

philosophical ethics into STEM disciplines across the university. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: PhD in Philosophy, or a related field, by first day of employment (August 2026); Ability or potential to teach introductory, advanced undergraduate, and graduate courses in the areas of philosophy, ethics, and/or biomedical ethics; knowledge in areas related to clinical ethics, AI ethics and/or data ethics preferred but not
