Columbia’s Center for Clinical Medical Ethics (CCME) seeks applicants for a non-tenure-track faculty position at the Assistant Professor level. Housed in the Department of Medicine at Columbia University’s Vagelos College of Physicians and Surgeons, CCME aims to foster flourishing relationships among patients, doctors, and other medical professionals by supporting the ethical formation of medical trainees;
encouraging true intellectual friendship across difference; and facilitating public engagement on diverse ethical issues. We accomplish this through scholarly projects, research, community engagement, formal and informal mentoring programs, and teaching in both the classroom and at the bedside. Accordingly, CCME seeks an Assistant Professor of Medical Ethics who supports ethical formation, intellectual friendship,
and public engagement while advancing its research and teaching aims and outcomes. Applicants should have a proven track-record in both teaching and research in medical ethics or any of the diverse fields that contribute to the medical ethical and philosophical dimensions of medical research and practice. Applicants able to demonstrate an interdisciplinary approach, connecting their research in the humanities to
theories/finding of other disciplines is highly valued. Moreover, evidence of cultivating meaningful dialogues and collaborations with others at the interface between medicine, healthcare, and a range of humanities disciplines is an asset. The successful applicant's duties will be based on an effort distribution that includes research, writing and teaching. Successful candidates will be expected to collaborate
closely with CCME's director, while continuing to develop research in his/her areas of interest in medical ethics. In addition, successful candidates will mentor and teach at the undergraduate, medical student, and postgraduate medical resident levels.
