The Department of Psychiatry at the Columbia University Irving Medical Center/NewYork-Presbyterian Hospital seeks an Assistant/Associate Professor in Addiction Psychiatry. This position will be responsible for expanding access to evidence-based treatments for substance use disorders (SUDs) in both inpatient and outpatient settings (medical floors, psychiatric units and Presbyterian Hospital 2 (PB2)).
Additionally, this addiction psychiatrist will support integration of behavioral health services across all medical floors and be part of a team that provides essential training to psychiatrists in both inpatient and outpatient settings. Scope of Practice: The physician will provide direct patient care on inpatient units (medical and surgical units) and in the outpatient psychiatric clinic (PB2). Care will
include: Treatment and oversight of withdrawal symptoms. Pharmacologic treatment of substance use disorders. Management and oversight of co-occurring psychiatric disorders The physician will also provide training to: CL staff PB2 staff ACN staff Trainees (residents and fellows) Structure: Total: 1.0 FTE 0.2 FTE outpatient (PB2) 0.8 FTE inpatient Outpatient Responsibilities: Integration through a step-up
process. Evaluation and consultation for patients with substance use disorders and co-occurring psychiatric disorders. Provision of training to PB2 and ACN staff, based on identified needs. Group and individual supervision of complex cases. Liaison with the Transit Clinic and CL service. Collaboration with the established psychotherapy group for patients with SUDs. Development of protocols Inpatient Responsibilities:
Assist with the development of a new Addiction Consultation Service. Proactive management of SUDs. Provide consultation to the CL service, 9GN/3RE and CPEP. Provide training to CL staff. Liaison with PB2 and the Transit Clinic . Reporting Structure: the physician will report directly to the Director of the SUDs Program.
