Assistant or Associate Professor in Painting/Drawing/Foundations - Art FACULTY VACANCY ANNOUNCEMENT Position Details The Art Department invites applications for the position of tenure-track Assistant or Associate Professor of Painting, Drawing, and Foundations, to start in Fall 2026. We are seeking candidates qualified to teach painting and drawing courses ranging from undergraduate foundational to graduate level.
The ideal candidate will help expand current understandings of the discipline, challenge traditional art curricula and teaching approaches, and contribute to the school's vision by bringing a unique perspective and a diverse set of experiences that enrich intellectual discussions and material practices. Painting, Drawing, and Foundations is a core area of the Art Department, designed to support art majors and
students from across the college community in developing essential skills while encouraging conceptual thinking about art-making. Currently, we offer undergraduate courses within the Department’s BA program, and we are looking for an innovative artist to collaborate on a contemporary revision of the curriculum as we develop a BFA in Studio Art. Core responsibilities for Painting, Drawing, and Foundations include:
Conducting ongoing professional creative research. Teaching and advising graduate students. Instructing undergraduate courses from beginner to advanced levels. Actively participate in administrative operations, which include departmental and university committees, student recruitment, assessment activities, and serve in leadership departmental governance positions, including the rotating leadership for the Art
Department and Studio Art programs. The Art Department is part of the Division of Humanities and the Arts at The City College of New York (CCNY). We have over 750 undergraduate majors and minors in art and offer graduate programs in Studio Art, Digital and Interdisciplinary Art Practice, Art History and Art Museum Studies, and Art Education.
