University of Washington (UW) invites applications for a full-time tenure-track faculty position. We are primarily seeking candidates at the Assistant Professor level. However, for an exceptional candidate with demonstrated leadership in Systems Engineering, we would also consider an appointment at the Associate Professor level. The successful candidates will be expected to teach undergraduate, graduate, and
professional courses in Systems Engineering and to establish internationally recognized, externally funded research programs that address critical societal and industrial challenges. Areas of interest include, but are not limited to, Model-Based Systems Engineering, Digital Twins, Cyber-Physical Systems, Autonomous Systems, Physical AI, AI-Enabled Systems Engineering, Human–Systems Integration, Human–Autonomy
Teaming, and System-of-Systems Engineering. Candidates will also be expected to contribute to departmental, university, and professional service through the development and growth of Systems Engineering programs and initiatives, fostering interdisciplinary collaborations, and building strong partnerships with industry, government agencies, and academic institutions. This position is on a 9-month service period, with
an anticipated start date of September 16, 2027. The base salary range for the position will be $12,000 – $17,000 per month for a 9-month service period, commensurate with experience and qualifications, or as mandated by a U.S. Department of Labor prevailing wage determination. Other compensation associated with these positions may include a one-time relocation incentive. This is a full-time appointment. The
department currently has more than 270 undergraduate students and over 110 graduate students. The ISE Department at the University of Washington is on a multi-year trajectory of growth. In particular, the department is actively expanding its Systems Engineering Program to address increasing demands from industry and government partners, including key collaborators such as Boeing and the U.S. Department of War.
