Adjunct Instructor – Biology DESCRIPTION OF JOB: The Department of Biological Sciences at Edgewood University invites aapplications for adjunct instructors to teach courses in introductory biology and environmental science. Course Descriptions: Human Cell Biology and Genetics (Bio155) – This is a one-semester exploration of the biological chemistry of the human cell organized around the unifying theme of the

relationship of chemistry of biomolecules to the functional biology of a cell. Topics include the nature of science, biochemistry of water, proteins, lipids, carbohydrates, and nucleic acids, cellular structures, energy transformations in the cell, mitosis, meiosis, relationship between genotype and phenotype, transmission genetics and cancer. The material is covered in a combination of lecture and laboratory.

General Ecology and Evolution (Bio151) – This is a general education course as well a course for science majors. It covers the nature of science, Mendelian genetics, patterns of inheritance, concepts in ecology and processes of evolution. Lectures and labs apply fundamental concepts to current issues in biology. Introduction to Environmental Science (Bio250) – This course explores the connections between humans and

our environment by exploring basic ecological principals and applying them to many of the major environmental issues currently faced by humanity. Responsibilities: Instructors would be responsible for planning, implementing, and grading formative and summative assessments in lecture and lab (when applicable). They will also be expected to work with other instructors to ensure alignment between different sections of a

course. All courses are managed through an online LMS (Canvas) and instructors are expected to maintain an updated course site throughout the semester. JOB QUALIFICATIONS: Necessary Education or Work Experience: Master’s degree or ABD in biology or a closely related field required; a PhD is preferred.
